Back in May I started watching "Office Hours." It's a group of media professionals (ok, geeks) that meet on Zoom two hours every day to help people with the new realities of our locked down world. One topic of focus for the group has been education as it relates to the complexities and frustrations teachers are facing during lockdown.
I work in education at UMD, but it's for adults (mostly). My wife also is an educator of sorts, teaching silversmithing in her studios at Glen Echo Park. Again, most of her students are adults and teaching a fine craft presents different issues.
I think that while the lockdown issues facing K-16 education are super important, there are different issues being faced in adult education that deserve consideration as well. So, I decided to join the Office Hours panel for the first time. As expected, most of the conversation centered on the kids, but it was cool being a part. The group is pretty focused on good quality audio and video for participants (including a sound check and meters!), so I used Blair's silversmithing set as my Zoom set for Office Hours since the gear and lights are there.
